OIT Continues to Provide Critical Updates for Your University Computer
Announcement Body
Keeping software and operating systems up-to-date with the latest security patches helps ensure that your computer and your data is protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
OIT provides critical Windows security updates to your computer automatically through the BMC Client Management (FPAC) software. OIT is adding security updates for Microsoft Office apps as well.
- Typically, updates are installed once a month and require your computer to reboot when they are completed, although you can choose to delay the reboot until a later time if necessary. Your computer may restart multiple times as all updates are installed.
- Your computer will keep receiving these updates as long as it is on and connected to the Internet, whether you are on campus or remote.
- If you have a computer on campus that is currently turned off, it will receive any available updates once it is turned on and connects to the Internet again. Multiple reboots may be required.
Please note that these updates only include Windows security patches and Microsoft Office updates, not updates for all the software on your computer. Be sure to regularly check for and run updates for all your software in order to remain in compliance with the university computer security policy.
We appreciate your help in keeping our campus computing environment secure. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the IT Help Desk.
