Updates to the transition timeline from Classic Google Sites to New Google Sites

Google has extended the timeline for the transition of classic Google Sites to new Google Sites. If you have a classic Google Site that you wish to remain available, you will now have until July 2022 to convert your site to the new Sites format.

The updated timeline is:

  • December 31, 2021: You will no longer be able to create any new classic Sites. All new Google Sites must be created under the new Google Sites format.
  • June 2022 (previously December 2021): You will no longer be able to edit or update your classic Site(s).
  • July 2022 (previously January 2022): Any remaining classic Sites will be taken offline and users will not be able to view the website.

Any classic site that has not been converted by July 2022 will automatically be archived and replaced with a draft in the new Google Sites format.

To see if you have any Classic Google Sites that will be unpublished, visit the Classic Sites Manager Tool. This will show a list of any classic sites you own and you will be able to delete or download any sites you no longer need.

We strongly recommend that you convert any classic Sites that you need as soon as possible.
