Log Data

When you visit UNLV IT websites your browser sends us “log data.” This log data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser version, pages of the site that you visit, the time and date of the visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics. Your name or other identifying information is not present in these logs unless you explicitly log in to a campus resource. We do not associate IP addresses with names, so sessions will be tracked, but visitors will remain anonymous.

Website administrators may use log data to evaluate the use of their websites—which pages are visited frequently or infrequently, how long pages are open, etc. This information will not be made available to others except under conditions below.

Information Provided Voluntarily

In using UNLV IT websites, you may choose to provide information to us through Web forms, e-mail or other electronic means. Any personally identifiable information you submit will be used only for the purpose(s) indicated. Requests for information will be directed to the appropriate staff to respond to the request, and may be recorded to help improve our services and better respond to similar requests.

Information Disclosure

Information on university computers and equipment may be subject to legal discovery and disclosed:

  • In response to lawfully executed court ordered warrants or subpoenas
  • As a result of the Nevada Public Records Act (i.e. public records request)
  • In litigation involving the university and/or university employees
  • In criminal investigations or investigations of student or employee misconduct
  • In university investigations in accordance with NSHE or university policy.

InCommon Service Providers

UNLV is a member of InCommon, the U.S. education and research identity federation. Through InCommon, Identity Providers like UNLV can provide single sign-on convenience and privacy protection, while online Service Providers control access to their protected resources. When you sign on to an InCommon service the authentication system sends the Service Provider the identity information it requires to provide access to their services. This information includes your affiliation with UNLV and may include your name, email address, and affiliation status (faculty, staff, or student).
