IT Initiatives
At UNLV, our IT initiatives are focused on improving and expanding technologies for a seamlessly connected campus. Through innovation, we aim to enhance learning, teaching, research, and operations so students, faculty, and staff can thrive in a dynamic digital world.
Current Initiatives
Improved Microsoft Office 365 User Experience
Microsoft Office 365 users will be moved to a single tenant. This consolidation is in response to Microsoft’s licensing changes and will deliver positive changes, including better services, improved user experiences, and continued access to important software (Word, Excel, etc.).
Password Manager Service Changes
As the use of password managers is more common now, we understand many students and employees may use their own preferred options. After reviewing usage, we found that LastPass was not widely used, so we decided to not renew our contract. As a result, UNLV will no longer offer LastPass as its password manager. After July 31, 2025, all LastPass accounts will convert to free accounts if users take no action.
RebelCard Service Migration
The RebelCard system will be upgraded to a more modern, advanced platform for identification and credentials for better security and data integration. With the new system, RebelCard will be available on your smartphone for added convenience when interacting with campus services.
Windows 11 Transition
To protect the campus computing environment, IT-managed computers need to be updated to Windows 11 or replaced if the device is not compatible with the latest operating system by October 2025.
Completed Initiatives (FY 2024-2025)
UNLV IT Project Portfolio Management
UNLV IT uses project portfolio management to drive success of approved IT projects. IT teams are required to submit the project intake form for all new projects.
