Listen to IT News With New Text-to-Speech Feature

Listen to this announcement

Never miss the latest information technology (IT) news happening around campus with text-to-speech, now allowing readers to listen to news stories published by UNLV IT.

With a simple click, readers can now listen to all articles and announcements published on the IT News Center with the addition of text-to-speech tools that appear when viewing a news story. When used, the text-to-speech will begin reading an article or announcement from start to finish, with customization options for a heightened listening experience.

“The addition of text-to-speech makes the IT site more accessible to those reading articles or announcements on our news center,” says Kevin Kydd, senior IT web developer. “When creating changes to the IT site, we make sure our site design adheres to the highest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines standards.”

Accessible tools like text-to-speech expand opportunities for users on the IT News Center, a central location for all technology improvements, highlights, and accomplishments at UNLV. Adding text-to-speech means users on the IT site now have multiple options for reading the latest IT news and staying up-to-date on important information that affects their technology use on campus.

To listen to an article or announcement, simply:

  • Locate the “Listen to this article” or “Listen to this announcement” player
  • Press the play button on the left-hand side
  • While listening, use the pause and other buttons at your convenience

Try out the text-to-speech feature on IT’s latest news stories, covering topics from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity awareness.
