Data Centers Facilities
TBE (Thomas and Beam Engineering Complex)
The TBE building houses the Office of Information’s (OIT) latest data center, which features two hot aisle containment systems (HACS). The HACS allows for higher density in server cabinets and a more efficient cooling. The facility has two 100K uninterruptible power supply (UPS), redundant chillers, and redundant InRow cooling units. OIT has 22 server cabinets in this facility. Security for this facility is handled by the Operations Center and includes surveillance, alarmed doors, and proximity door access. Hosting customers will not have to be escorted when accessing equipment in this facility.
This facility has most available server cabinet space, the highest cooling capacity, and is supported by a diesel generator. During the first few seconds of an outage, the UPS will power the facility. After a few seconds of a utility power outage, the generator will supply power to all devices in the data center as well as the cooling infrastructure and room lighting. TBE is best used as the primary or secondary location for redundant systems, departmental applications, and other non-revenue generating applications.
Originally opened in 2011, the data center was designed for high-density hosting. With our expansion in 2018, this has allowed us to double in size.
SCS (System Computer Services)
The SCS building houses the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) data center which OIT uses as a colocation facility. It has redundant utility power feeds, dual UPSs, redundant computer room air conditioners (CRAC), and a generator. There are 14 server cabinets in this facility, and security includes video surveillance, proximity door access, and SCS staff on site. Hosting customers will need to be escorted by Operations Center staff when accessing equipment in this facility.
Server cabinet space and density are limited in SCS. Therefore, this facility is best used to house revenue-generating applications, applications that directly support education, and applications that support the entire campus.
